Ingredients


2 cups light brown sugar
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup lard
1 egg
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
3 cups flour
1 egg
1/2 cup broken walnuts

Cream together the sugar and shortening; add beaten egg.
Add the buttermilk and blend.
Sift together the flour, baking powder, and baking soda, and mix with creamed ingredients.
"Blotch" on a greased and floured cookie sheet and spread evenly with the back of a spoon.
Brush slightly beaten egg over the top then sprinkle with nuts.
Bake in 350 degree oven "until it springs back when touched with finger."
