An Apple a Day

Hot, wholesome ways with that recommended apple a day.

Nutty Baked Apples
Stir 1/2 cup raisins with 2 tbsp. each of chopped nuts and butter and a dash of vanilla.  Stuff into 2 cored apples.  Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 30 min. or microwave, covered, on high for 6 min.

Old Fashioned Sauce
Peel, core and thinly slice 6 apples.  Combine in a saucepan with 1/4 cup each of water and brown sugar.  Cook over med. heat, stirring often until tender.  Add 1/2 tsp. vanilla and puree.  
Makes 3 Cups.

Terrific Turnovers
Toss 2 peeled, cored and finely diced apples with 2 tsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice and 1 tsp. brown sugar.  Use as a filling for 1 pkg. of refrigerator crescent dinner rolls.  Fold into a turnover shape.  Seal the edge.  Bake according to pkg. directions.
Makes 8.
