Ingredients


1 cup butter or other shortening
1 egg, beaten
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup molasses
4 cup sifted enriched flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 cup raisins (optional)

Molasses Cookies


Cream shortening, cream in brown sugar.  Add molasses and beaten egg.  Mix well.  Sift flour with salt, soda and spices.  Add to creamed mixture and mix well.  Chill and roll out or pack dough into greased pan and bake, cut dough into strips about 1" wide, then cut into thin slices and bake in preheated over 350 to 375 degrees for 10 to 15 min.
